CMDB stands for **C**onfiguration **M**anagement **D**ata**B**ase. Wikipedia has a good article describing the role of a CMDB in applications and systems: [CMDB][1]. There are many CMDBs in use by various products/departments throughout the company, as the term CMDB is generic.
For those of you working on the Cobalt, "CMDB" usually refers to the specific CMDB used to deploy applications on the Cobalt platform.
