Mashup has to do with bringing web2 features over to WestlawNext without re-coding them. WestlawNext can include an iframe (I think this is still what it does) that will display a result list, or PeopleMap for instance, and the user can interact with it as if the features are in WestlawNext. I believe the mashup is really a slice product of web2: synch.westlaw.com and this allows for custom styles and other customizations that can be made to make the mashup less distinguishable.
There's probably a better answer out there, this is what I know as a web2/next developer who has a high level understanding of what's going on. Let me know if you need a specific resource to ping and I can set you up with the developers.
