BigIP is a load balancer. For instance you create a VIP, put in a pool of web servers, and then BigIP will manage the traffic. If a server goes down, BigIP won't send any more traffic to that server. If you're doing work on a web server, you can drain it from the VIP.
Here's a website you can use to see the servers in your VIP pool, how many connections are on each server, which servers are drained, etc.

BigIP is a third-party solution from F5 and is not a Thomson Reuters technology; however Thomson Reuters does use it.
