Bypassing sessionId requirement for search specific endpoints

Hi

I have recently joined, search team and started working on the endpoints in SearchWeb project. What is the easiest way to test the endpoints using a HTTP Client like fiddler when the app is deployed on localhost.

So far I was able to get a session id from firecookie by routing code to the dev box ( Web_SessionId key in firecookie ). I am seeing the following error when I try to call the endpoint using the session id.

Object for key 'rsxiubaleud1xwfvsutegcyi' not found in SessionBindings cache.

I ran into a similar problem when working on the [WebContent module][1]. You want to be able to call in to the REST endpoints directly, but need a session setup and all that.

What I did was create a Ruby script that actually goes through the whole Cobalt Authentication process for you (asks you your username/password, makes the Website REST calls to log you in, checks for multiple reg keys, etc). Once it's done that, it sets up a local proxy so then you can hit that proxy via fiddler, and it appends all the cookies, etc and passes the call up to the normal VIP so that it can be routed using the x-cobalt-host header as normal.

The only thing you need to do is put the x-cobalt-host headers on your Fiddler request, and it should work.

I did some quick tests and the script was having problems logging into Westlaw Next (I work on advisor.accelus.com, so I created it working with that site), but it should be a good starting point if you'd like to tweak it.

You'll need Ruby 1.9.2 plus some rubygems (sorry, I forget which off the top of my head), but I'd be happy to help you get setup.

Thanks for the help Ryan, I will try that solution. I am familiar with ruby, should be able to tweak it, but I will reach out for help if I can't get it. Sincere thanks for sharing the script.
