Best Approach for Suppressing Phone Number Highlighting on iOS for Non-Phone Numbers

I am working on a bug for the Business Law Advisor (Maxwell) to suppress phone number highlighting for non-phone numbers (e.g. numeric values formatted at 000.0000 that are not meant to be phone numbers).
From my research the best approach is to add the following meta tag:
This works great with the exception of the fact that it also suppresses real phone numbers which is still desired.
To get around this, it appears I am going to have to add anchor tags to each desired phone number and apply the meta tag above.
Anyway my question is has anyone already dealt/ran into with this issue using the Cobalt platform? Any ideas on a better approach than the one I outlined above?

I haven't tried it out, but [this StackOverflow question][1] suggests that you should remove auto-formatting for the phone numbers for the entire page and then add it back selectively via an anchor tag:
1-408-555-5555
