How can I look up the OA id for a company by ticker or name?
Ryan Morlok
How can I find the [OA ID][1] of a company when I have a name for the company, or its ticker symbol?

One way is to use the web interface exposed by WCA

In another question that Ryan asked (
http://techoverflow.int.westgroup.com/questions/815/what-does-oa-stand-for)
Paul Buchanon responded that OA is slated to replace the WCA. Is this the OA? If not then what is the difference between this service and
http://tcawwp.west.thomson.com/wca/v1/CompanyAuthority/
- other than an apparently different syntax?

Though both the WCA services at tcawwp.west.thomson.com and at wcaedd.westlan.com will return the OA Id (OACoId) in the response to successful requests, you cannot use the interface mentioned by Amar to look up a company by ticker. From the "[OA Primer][1]":
>The WCA also takes in auxiliary data for organizations (such as tickers and exchanges) and collates it with the standard organization info.
In addition, my own experience shows the EDD data provided via the wcaedd.westlan.com service does not include ticker, primary CIK, SIC and NAIC classification and URL and so your searches will fail. However, you *can* use the WCA service at
http://tcawwp.west.thomson.com/wca/v1/CompanyAuthority/ui/booleanAndSearch/
to do this - for example: [
http://tcawwp.west.thomson.com/wca/v1/CompanyAuthority/company?InvtxtTkr=GOOG&CtryId=US][2]
According to [Vish Prasad][3], one of the developers involved with the WCA service,
> The wcaedd.westlan.com service points to the 30 million company index. Only the attributes required by the Enhanced Due Diligence project ( EDD ) are present for each company.
> The tcawwp.west.thomson.com service points to a 4 million company index ( Equifax sourced companies are excluded ).
