Can TRMR be used over the web?

We have a .net project that would like to report session information through Trmr, but what makes this application unique is that it will running on a different network and communicating with TR servers over the open web.

Is it possible to use TRMR? Advisable? Any limitations?

If it is either not advisable or not possible, what are the alternatives? We could create some form of TRMR proxy, I suppose. That makes it possible, not not necessarily advisable.
