What does QED stand for?

I've always thought it came from this phrase:
quod erat demonstrandum
It's Latin which roughly means "which had to be proven". Many times it's used at the end of a mathematical proof. I've basically taken to mean that your code needs to be proven before it goes to production.

I think there are a few different usages of this acronym. When it refers to a department, I think it stands for Quality Engineering Department. When it's referring to an environment such as WestlawNext QED, I had no idea, but Matthew looks to have answered that for me too
