No. Akamai is optional and evaluated per product.
In some cases, there may be an Akamai-style domain name (e.g.,
http://a.example.com/)
setup for your product without actually configuring it to use Akamai. This may be useful for consistent domain name configuration or allowing for the future expansion to use Akami without other setup changes.
Akamai may be useful to improve performance of static content, security, and scalability.
