Can't find the DSS field names for 4 issuer ratings requested by my users

My users request the following aditional ratings for all entities we select in DSS:

  1. Fitch Short-term Issuer Default Rating (FDS)

  2. Fitch Short-term Issue Credit Rating (FST)

  3. S&P Short-term Issuer Credit Rating (SIS)

  4. S&P Short-term Debt Rating (SDT)

  5. Moody's Short-term Bank Deposit (MSD)

But I cant find the DSS field nem already for the first 2 raings in the Excel DSS "field dictionary" I have (from Jan 2019).

I am using the DSS REST API and the Legal Entitiy Detail Extraction Request to get the entities data with ratings (18 ratings from Fitch, Moody's and S&P already selected).

Can someone help ?

Thanks

Bernard

I checked using the latest version of the Data Content guide. I guess that we both did more or less the same thing, but will detail my methodology any way for the sake of clarity.

As a best practice, I always ensure I use the latest version of the Data Content guide; as there are several releases per year, in some cases this could make a difference. The latest one is of July 2019.

To find a specific data field I open tab "Field Descriptions", and use a text filter on column D or E to display only the rows that "contain" a keyword that defines what I'm looking for, in this case I started with "Fitch" and "rating". I usually don't filter on the report name (column C) just in case a field I need is in a different report from the one I'm expecting.

Using that method I found fields "Fitch Issuer Short Rating" (domestic) and "Fitch Issuer Short Rating - F" (foreign), in "Legal Entity Detail" and also in "Terms and Conditions". I found equivalent fields for S&P and Moody ratings. All these fields were available since version 11.1, so the fact that you did not use the latest version of the data content guide is of no relevance for this particular case.

Not being a data specialist, I'm not in a position to tell you if any of these corresponds to what you are searching for, but I guess not, which would imply that the specific ratings your users want might not be available.

That said, this forum is aimed at software developers using Refinitiv APIs. The moderators on this forum do not have the required deep expertise in all the content sets available through our products to answer your question. For data content query like this one, the best and speediest way to receive an answer is to open a content-related enquiry via MyRefinitiv or to call the Refinitiv Help Desk directly. They will either have the answer for you right away, or will reach out to the content experts who can provide the answer you're looking for.

As a side note on ratings, please note that the ratings fields of the Intraday Pricing request will be removed in version 13.2 (November 2019). Ratings content can be accessed from the Composite and Terms and Conditions reports instead. These reports offer more granular ratings content by provider (Fitch, JCR, Moody’s Standard & Poors, etc.).

Hi Christiann

I followed your advice and contacted the support, and after being told that the LegalEntityDetail template did not have the fields I was looking for, I found out that they are actually available on the Ratings template, as they are actually deined as issuer ratings (!), which for me is a bore, because that would mean coding for another template again. So I explained that to the support and told them that actually these ratings are entity ratings, because issuers are entities. They told me that they were going to try to convince whoever is responsible for these 2 templates that both should offer the issuer ratings... No news since then, so I'll remind them that I'm expecting an answer :). If they do it at all, it will probably take a while, so I'm not holding my breath on this one, so I might have to bite the bullet and add the Raings template extraction... we'll see :)

Hi BTh, thank you for sharing the result of the discussion, this is very interesting. I hope the product team will follow your hint, but in the meantime I guess you will have to add a Ratings extraction.

Hi again Christiaan

Yesterday; I got a mail from the Refinitiv support team saying the following: "We have reviewed your case and contacted product manager to add all the issuer rating fields available under Rating template in Legal Entity detail template on Data Scope Select".

So all issuer ratings, including the 4 ratings I was looking for (and which I am now getting from Ratings, as I had to deliver results...) are very likely going to be available in the LegalEntityDetail request, where they actually belong :)

It is sitill subject to a "feasibility analysis", but I'm quite confident that the analysis will be positive :)

Regards

Bernard

@BTh, thank you (again) for sharing, this is very useful information. Fingers crossed that the feasability analysis will conclude that it can be done :)
