Where to Find RIC Chains and Variables?

Where can i find the variables required for using them? For example, in rf_yield_curve.ipynb i see that in the defined formula "get_data" i should insert the ric_chain. What is a ric chain? where can i find it? is there like a book where i can search and find all these kind of things that are needed to use the examples in codebook?

I am also interested in using the pca_yield_curve.ipynb script but also there I do not understand what variables I have to specify.

A chain is a code that displays a set of related instruments, such as option on a specific stock. With a chain, you can get a whole set of instrument using a single code. Typically, you need to contact the content support team to get required chain RICs or you can use the RIC Search tool.

Then, you can use the the Data Item Brower tool to search for fields and parameters.

Otherwise, the best resource for content questions is the Helpdesk support team, which can be reached by submitting queries through LSEG Support. The support team will either have the required content expertise ready available or can reach out to relevant content experts to get the answer for you.

You need to ask for the Excel formula, such as =RDP.Data, that can be used to retrieve the required data. Then, we can help you converting that formula to Python code.

A chain RIC consists of multiple underlying RICs grouped together and is commonly used with the prefix 0# to denote a record. These are useful for accessing related instruments collectively.

For example, a relevant chain RIC for yield curves would be:
0#USBMK= – which displays benchmark instruments.

You can also refer to the CURVESRCH app in Eikon to find credit curve RICs for a specific currency. Here’s how:

Type 0#CREDITCURVES Q in the main search bar.
Select the matching result or press Enter to launch the Quote.
Double-click the chain RIC (e.g., 0#EURCURVES) to view the composite RIC of the underlying curve.
Double-click the composite RIC to view available tenors.

As you mentioned Italian BTPs, you can use the RIC 0#ITBTP=TT from the main page for Italian government bonds (IT/GOVT1).
If you're looking for BTP benchmarks, you can also refer to 0#ITBMK=TT.
