However, the Eikon Data API or Desktop session of Data Library need to have Eikon Desktop or LSEG Workspace up and running on the same machine to be able to connect to the data platform so they won't be working in Colab

as mentioned in the step 1 of Quick start guide as below

The Eikon application integrates a Data API proxy that acts as an interface between the Eikon Data API Python library and the Eikon Data Platform. For this reason, the Eikon application must be running when you use the Eikon Data API Python library. When launched, the Eikon application starts listening for local websocket connections on port 9000 or the next available port if port 9000 is already occupied. You need to have a valid Eikon user account to be able to launch the Eikon application.

Got it, however, I'm not sure if Colab can connect to the localhost, please let me know in case you have facing any issue on this.

I am not sure if the Workspace desktop application can connect to Colab environment.

Back to the issue, did you generate the app-key via the website or via the Workspace/Eikon desktop application?

If you did on the web, can please you retry with the Workspace/Eikon application?

You can open the App Key Generator tool by typing "appkey" on the Workspace search bar as follows:

Then, input your app name and check on the "Eikon" checkbox.

Could you please try creating a new app key with more specific app display name, such as, ld-lib-2025-yourname, to see if it can be created.

Meanwhile, I’m also reaching out to related team to investigate this on LSEG side, I think this could be an issue related to app display name. will keep you posted.
