Date of Birth scan

Hi,

How accurate does the Date of Birth of an entity need to be for WC1 to find a match?

For some of our entities we only have the Date of Birth as a Year and a Month and hence we will be populating the day of the date-part with the 1st to make sure it is a proper date when we send it to WC1. So for example we may only know that John Smith was born in May 1978 and thus we will send the DOB to WC1 as being approximately 1978-05-01.

If John Smith has a profile in WC1 but his actual birth date is 1978-05-20 will the approximate date (1978-05-01) above actually result in him not being matched due to the "wrong" date we've sent?

So I guess my question really boils down to - is it better to have an approximate DOB added to a case OR is it better to have no DOB sent to added to a case to make sure it gets matched to existing WC1 profiles?

So it's not like our DOB is completely wrong. We have the month and year correct - we are just out with the day.

Thanks :)

Hi,

I tried to replicate the scenario that you mentioned above and below are my findings,

Is it better to have an approximate DOB added to a case OR is it better to have no DOB sent to added to a case to make sure it gets matched to existing WC1 profiles?

- So the WC1 search engine would prioritize the name matching functionality ahead of any other parameter that you're passing, the DOB field is a secondary field which mainly exists for you to narrow down your search, you'll get comparatively accurate and precise results instead of broader matches (eg: you would get 7 matches with DOB instead of 10 without the secondary field DOB).

Having said that no matter how you pass the DOB-

1. Only Birth year.

2.Birth Year & month.

3. Birth Year, month & date.dobscenarios.pdf

The matches in all the above 3 cases were same, suppose the actual birth year of John Smith is 1952, you would get a match for both 1950 and 1954 the year range for the match here is +- 2 years for DOB field, attached a snapshot for the same.

To summarize this the DOB "secondary field" is mainly to narrow down on your search and get a precise list and is advisable to always use that, So sending John Smith's DOB as just 1978-05-01 would fetch you the exact result as to when you send his DOB as just 1978 or 1978-05.

Hope this answers your question!!
