What is the difference between Issued and Outstanding for Shares Amount Type?

Hi,

Any advice on the difference between the two? Intuitively, Issued sounds like new shares issued in a certain period and outstanding reveals total shares available. However, when I look at the extraction for all Japanese shares, only very few instruments have data of type outstanding and most of them have only observations of type Issued.

Looking forward to any suggestions!

Thanks,

Kitty

The key difference between issued vs outstanding shares is that Issue shares is the total shares that are issued by the company to raise the funds, whereas, outstanding shares are the shares available with the shareholders at the given point of time after excluding the shares which are bought back.
