How are news categorized?

Questions from @etudiant1 How news are categorized? Does each author of the news articles, select in which RCS it will be categorized. Or there is a sort of Refinitiv's algorithm that classifies the articles?

The author of the News article tags the story with relevant topic and asset (company, commodity etc) tags. The tagged Topic is converted into the standard RCS Topic code.

The story is also passed through the Refinitiv NLP system to identify additional relevant topic codes, which are also added to the story.
