Workspace Python API: Error: no proxy address identified

We are currently migrating our users from Eikon to Workspace, and they are trying to run their Python scripts using the same scripts and api key that they used with the Eikon API (that as I understand should work fine for Workspace?). However they are getting the following error, which they don't get when the Eikon API is used (i.e. when Eikon is open in the background instead of Workspace):

[MainThread 24048] Error: no proxy address identified.
Check if Eikon Desktop or Eikon API is running.
[MainThread 24048] Port number was not identified, cannot send any request.
[MainThread 24048] Port number was not identified.
Check if Eikon Desktop or Eikon API is running.

What is the issue here?
