Dear LSEG community,
I hope that I am right here with this question. We are currently working with LSEG to gather data for our master thesis in the topic of VC vs. non VC-backed IPO performance, and in this field we also want to identify the impact of VC monitoring. We found good proxies for that in old papers, but for that we need to identify the lead VC at the time of the IPO. The paper we refer to for our planned monitoring regression is "The role of venture capital in the creation of public companies: Evidence from the going-public process" by Barry et. al. (1990).
We were able to gather the sample of VC and non VC backed IPOs using the screener (I will include a screenshot) and also the pricing data we need using the dataflow Excel plugin, but we struggle to find more info we need to identify the lead VC. We used columns like venture capital firm (and fund) name, the capital amount in the round and the numbers of rounds. However, we then struggle to identify which VC is the lead, how long they were invested etc. As the "venture capital firm name" column only gives all the names of companies that once invested, it is hard to identify which was still on board for the IPO, which has invested the most amount etc. We also tried going into ownership tab for some of the companies and look into the shareholders report, but this doesn't really help as well.
If anyone has an idea how to figure this out, how to gather this data or any other advice or idea helping with this, we highly appreciate it! Thank you very much in advance.
